Hello and welcome to “Heerdink’s EdD Journey”! I’m Joe Heerdink, and I’m thrilled to share with you my ongoing adventure in the realms of technology, leadership, and education. Currently, I serve as the Regional Director of Information Technology at Henderson Community College & Madisonville Community College, where I lead our Technology Solutions departments. Our mission is to excel in managing computers, servers, student technology, and network infrastructure, ensuring our campuses are at the forefront of technological advancement.
My journey in technology began when I was just 10 years old, with a defining moment being the disassembly of my first computer. This early exploration set the stage for what would become a lifelong passion for technology. After high school, the aspiration to pursue higher education was always present, and in 2008, I took the leap. As a non-traditional student at Indiana University Southeast, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Information and Operations Management, with a minor in Computer Science.
But my academic pursuits didn’t end there. I further honed my skills and knowledge by obtaining a Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance from Western Governors University. This degree was a deep dive into the intricate world of cybersecurity, arming me with the necessary skills to lead and innovate in this vital sector.
Today, I find myself on a new and exciting path, pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Technology Leadership at Morehead State University. This step is a testament to my commitment to staying abreast of technological advancements and educational strategies. It’s about ensuring that the institutions I serve are equipped with the most effective and cutting-edge technology solutions.
Professionally, my journey has been a full circle: from a curious youngster fascinated by the inner workings of computers to a regional IT director shaping the technological framework of educational institutions. This role is the perfect amalgamation of my lifelong passion for technology and my unwavering commitment to continuous learning and leadership.
As I embark on this doctoral journey, I am filled with excitement for the future of technology, leadership, and learning. The landscape is ever-changing, and the possibilities are limitless. Through this blog, I aim to share insights, experiences, and reflections on how these three domains intersect and how they can be harnessed to drive innovation and excellence in education.
